Tanglish Part-2 : Galeej /Imsai

Continuing the Tanglish Alphabet series

E
Elephant - Erumai

CAPTION

In East Asia, White Elephant is considered as a symbol of good luck and as a protector of Buddha. This beast has high maintenance and has no practical use. There is also a legend that, folks used to gift white-elephants to their enemy, hoping that he becomes financially ruined by feeding this mammoth animal.

On a dialy basis, a grown up asian elephant eats about 15o kilograms of leaves, branches and imagine, you need a big forest to feed few animals only "summa vaa sonaanga yaanaiya katti theenai podrathu innu"
Hope you yould have guessed the relation between the picture the kutty on the yaaani and the words here. The kutty is from East Asia !!

Erumai
CAPTION

This poor animal is known for its slow movement and "patience". Look at the usage:
When somebody blocks the way and doest move, you say 'Eruma mattu janman da, apdiye nikkaraan paaru'

The term 'erumai' is also used by our lovable vaathiyaars, to fondly call our friends who doesn't listen to them or show any improvement inspite of their advices. Also the vaathi's give their final judgement ' nee ellam eruma maadu meika thaan laayaku". Director Shankar used this "symbol of patience" to kill a villan in the movie Anniyan.

F - Fire Truck

CAPTION
It is very difficult to think of any other word for F, other the one which ends with K…guys…am talking about Fire Truck

In one of the recent surveys in UK, women were questioned about with whom they fantasize the most. Firemen topped the list, followed by Soldiers and doctors. Celebrities we way down in the top 10 and guess who is the least fantasized professional is? The poor traffic cop!!

No equivalent for F in tamil...so escape....

G
God - Galeej

CAPTION

Naan ellam Kadvaula pathi blog eluthina, athu intha blogger site ikke adukaathu…. so am moving on to……gaaleej ( is somebody saying..that is a suitable word for you )

Galeej
This term is used when you want to refer somebody who behaves in a lowly manner or from a low cultured back ground.
e.g. dey…avana sariyaan galeej party da…
This term is also used by friends, when somebody creates a mess in a public place, particularly a bar.
e.g machi …residency bar la sema galeej da, sariyaana mappu

H
Horse
CAPTION
Hey motorheards....am not going to talk about Mustang or Ferrari

I had a bad experience, when I took a horse to explore the areas around the Great Pyramids of Giza. The so called guide put me on the horse and went few yards to pick up his horse. These stupid horses exhibit a strange behavior in desert sands. Every few hours they roll on their backs in the hot sands for some reason. And I was at the wrong place at the wrong time. The horse pushed me down and started rolling on the sand. Then it stood up happily looking at me with a sarcastic smile….grrrrr…
Ha - ithu vadamozhi ezhuthu aagayaal, intha thooya thamizh kirukalil idam pera vaaipu illamal pogirathu.

I
Ink - Imsai

CAPTION

Anybody uses ink these days after the advent of ball points, roller balls and other gel-based hi tech writing instruments? Rewind our school days; it was fun to fill up the ink every time our bellowed ‘tanker’ pen. I still remember, having an Camlin Ink Pen branded “Exam Special”, with extra ink storage capacity. Once you grow bigger, you get a fountain pen which avoids the filling hasslef etc., as it has the automatic mechanism.

Imsai
Literal meaning of 'imsai' is venting out physical trouble to living beings, which vaguely translates to violence in English. Remember the Gandhian principle of “Ahimsai” which is the antonym of Himsai. But in tamil slang, this word is used to express all kinds of troubles, boredom even the very mundane.

e.g. Dey… imsai pannatha..enna konjam thaniya iruka vidu
e.g. Physics miss…seriyana imsai da…chumm noi..noi innuttu irukkum
Sandiyar's lessons will continue to haunt you :-)
Ciao !!
